Multipurpose storage and rainwater tank

In villages where water is available infrequently storage is of great importance to women. A small 2000 litre rooftop rainwater harvesting tank does exactly just that. During the rainy season rainwater is collected in the tank. At other times the girl and her mother fill it up by bringing water from the community tap. It takes 2 hours of work for both of them The water then lasts them 15 days. The schoolboys are also aware of the benefits that the tank brings. Repairs are needed to the pipe and the tap. The girl says its the households responsibility and they will repair the tank before the monsoon

The bad quality of materials available in the market has a negative impact on the longevity of the system. If we have good gutters and good pipes our rainwater harvesting systems would work a whole lot better
