Root irrigation using pipe

A good way to get water to the roots of the plant. Pour water into the pipe, 2 feet deep. Et voilà. This is in Tilonia in Rajasthan.

Regarding the option above [watering via vertical short pipe that leads the water to the roots] What are the advantages and disadvantages of this option ( does it increase growth rate of the tree/shrub for the same amount of water) Watering deep and leaving the upper layer dry-_is it an advantage?
